Day 25 – He has Come…and is Coming Again
The day has come at long last. The angels are singing glory in the highest. The shepherd have sought the Savior that they could worship Him. The star of Bethlehem is shining brightly for all the world to know that the King has come to earth.
His first coming is one of remarkable salvation and joy. The King has come to rescue His prodigal sons and daughters. He has come to do what we couldn’t to give a gift we could never earn. His perfect life is set to lead Him to a death that would change the spiritual landscape of all mankind.
The good news of His first arrival also holds the promise of His second coming:
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
and the war horse from Jerusalem;
and the battle bow shall be cut off,
and he shall speak peace to the nations;
his rule shall be from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.”
~ Zechariah 9:9-10
As we celebrate our the birth of our King today, let us also look forward to His second coming. May we wait with the same anticipation of a promise fulfilled like David and Abraham did. May we savor His arrival with the same passion of Mary or Simeon. May we look forward to the culmination to God’s gospel plan as He returns to reconcile all things to Himself.
